Zev Shapiro

Zev Shapiro (born Zev Dickstein, May 30, 2002)[1] is a student, activist and social entrepreneur based in Cambridge, MA in the USA.[2][3][4] He is the founder of TurnUp, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and app that intends to increase youth voter turnout.[5][6]

Shapiro was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[7] He is the grandson of American astrophysicist Irwin Shapiro and psychiatrist Leah Dickstein.[8] He graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School[9] and currently attends Harvard University.[10]

Shapiro acted as campaign manager for unsuccessful candidate Joyce Gerber in the 2013 Cambridge School Committee elections, at the age of eleven.[11] He has volunteered for the campaigns of Democratic politicians Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey and Maura Healey.[12][13] In 2014, he was invited to the State of the Union as Elizabeth Warren’s guest.[14] In 2018, a representative of the Massachusetts Teenage Republicans (Mike Brodo) and the vice-chair of the Massachusetts High School Democrats (Shapiro) spoke in support of a Massachusetts Civics Education Bill.[15][16] In 2019, Shapiro launched TurnUp, an organization and app attempting to improve youth voter turnout.[4][17][18][19]
