Wipro Enterprises (officially Wipro Enterprises Private Limited) is a privately-held Indian company whose main activities are in the fast-moving consumer goods, lighting, and hydraulic cylinders, Industrial Automation, 3D Printing and Aerospace component manufacturing and Industrial Water treatment business. It almost entirely owned by Azim Premji, his associates, and his charitable associations.[3]

Not to be confused with Wipro.

The company was founded in 2013 as a spin-off of Wipro Limited's non-IT businesses.[4]

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting (WCCLG) caters to the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) segment dealing in personal care, home care, lighting and seating solutions. Established as Western India Vegetable Products in 1945,[5] its first product was vegetable oil, later sold under the brand name "Sunflower Vanaspati."Later the company also launched laundry bars under the brand name "787". It has gone on to sell personal care products like Santoor, Chandrika, Aramusk and Yardley,[6][7] which are its toilet soap brands.[7] It also owns the Wipro Safewash and Wipro Baby Soft ranges.[8] The firm also sells lighting products that include Garnet LED lights.[9] and Smartlite CFL.[10]

Through product sales and acquisitions, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has grown steadily in the FMCG segment in Asia.[11][12][6] Its turnover as on March 2021 was Rs.8399 Crore (US $1.13 billion)[13]

Wipro Consumer Care Ventures

In September 2019, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting launched Wipro Consumer Care Ventures a venture fund to invest in startups in India and Southeast Asia.[14] The Company has invested in five companies in India since then. In March 2022, Consumer Care Ventures invested inSingapore-based VC fund.[15]

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering is the hydraulics business division of the firm and has been in the business of manufacturing hydraulic cylinders, truck cylinders, and their components since being established in 1976 as part of Wipro. It also includes the company's industrial water treatment business.[16] This division delivers hydraulic cylinders to international OEMs .[17] Wipro Infrastructure Engineering is considered to be one of the world's largest independent manufacturers of hydraulic cylinders.[18][19]

In 2013, Wipro Infrastructure and Kawasaki formed a joint venture to manufacture hydraulic pumps.[20] [21] The JV has two manufacturing facility in Karnataka.[22]

In 2021, the Aerospace business set up a new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.[23] In 2016 the business acquired Israel-based Givon HR[24]

Wipro 3D, which is also a part of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, is India's largest fully integrated metal additive manufacturing facility.[25]

Mergers and acquisitions

Chandrika, which is an ayurvedic and herbal soap brand, was acquired in 2004.[26] Northwest Switches was acquired in 2006 for ₹102.2 crore.[27] In the same year, Sweden-based Hydrauto Group AB was acquired for ₹142.6 crore.[28]

Singapore-based Unza Holdings Ltd. was acquired in 2007 for ₹1,010 crore.[29] The personal care brand Yardley from the Lornamead Group was acquired for an undisclosed amount in 2009.[30] Men's toiletry brand, Aramusk, was acquired in 2011.[31] In the same year, a majority stake was acquired in Brazil-based hydraulic cylinder manufacturer RKM Equipamentos Hidraulicos. Wipro Enterprises also entered into a joint venture with Kawasaki Precision Machinery Pvt. Ltd. to manufacture hydraulic pumps for excavators in 2011.[32]

L D Waxsons Group, a Singapore-based FMCG company was acquired for $144 million in 2013.[33] In the same year, SC Hervil SA in Romania was acquired.[34] Zhongshan Ma Er Daily Products Ltd, a Chinese FMCG company, was acquired for an undisclosed amount in 2016. In the same year, Israel's H R Givon, which manufactures metallic parts and assemblies for aerospace industry, was acquired.[35] A minority stake in Happily Unmarried, which is a digital-first platform that sells male and female grooming products online, was acquired in 2017. In the same year, Wipro Infrastructure Engineering tied up with Israel Aerospace Industries to manufacture composite aerostructure parts and assemblies.

Social initiatives

Wipro Cares is the social contribution arm of Wipro Enterprises.[36] It is broadly engaged in areas such as education, primary healthcare, environment and disaster rehabilitation.[37] Wipro Enterprises’ Santoor Scholarship Program contributes to girl education among the underprivileged in Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.[38]

Awards and recognition

In 2010, Wipro Lighting won Design for Asia award in the product design category for its LED streetlight.[39]

In 2016, Wipro Lighting won India Design Mark for Certified Excellence in Product Design.[40]

In 2017, Wipro Lighting won International Diamond Prize for Excellence in Quality by European Society of Quality Research.[41] In the same year, it won, Red Dot Design award for outstanding design, Global SSL Showcase Top100, India Design Mark for certified excellence in Product Design, and Frost & Sullivan award for LED lighting visionary innovation leadership.[42]

In 2019 Wipro 3D won Frost & Sullivan Automotive Additive Engineering and Manufacturing award[43]
