William M. Griswold

William M. Griswold (February 7, 1823 – October 10, 1889) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate.

Biography

Born in Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York,[1][2] Griswold graduated from Union College in 1844, and gained admission to the bar in 1850.[1] In 1853, Griswold moved to Columbus, Wisconsin.[2]

Career

Griswold was a member of the Assembly from 1858 to 1860.[3] He was a member of the Senate from the 25th district from 1869 to 1870,[3] and "would have been returned to the Senate had he not declined the nomination".[1] Additionally, he was a supervisor of Columbia County, Wisconsin as well Chairman of the Columbia County Board. Griswold was a Republican.[2]

Personal life and death

Griswold married Mary Scofield of Yates County, New York in 1868.

He died of cancer at his home in Columbus at the age of 66.[1][3]
