Wildlife HQ Zoo

Wildlife HQ Zoo (formerly Queensland Zoo), is located at the Big Pineapple, Woombye, Queensland on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and opened in November 2013.[2] In March 2014 many animals were relocated from the now closed Alma Park Zoo.[3]

Opening hours

The zoo is open everyday of the year except Christmas Day. It is open between 9am and 4pm with the last entry at 3pm.

Wildlife HQ currently has nine species of primate at the zoo; ring-tailed lemur, black and white ruffed lemur, white-tufted marmoset, pygmy marmoset, cotton-top tamarin, golden lion tamarin (arrived June 2017), emperor tamarin, black-handed spider monkey (arrived October 2016) and hamadryas baboon. white-cheeked gibbons will also be arriving in late 2020. [4] The zoo has the following species of carnivore; three groups of meerkat (arrived June 2017), African wild dog (arrived December 2017), maned wolf (October 2018), serval (arrived August 2020), sun bear, binturong, red panda.[5] Wildlife HQ also have capybara (arrived August 2017) and several Australian species of mammals including koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, bettongs, potoroos, quokkas, a wombat and an echidna.

Birds

Wildlife HQ has a few species of birds including red-tailed black cockatoo, sulphur-crested cockatoo, southern cassowary, emu, kookaburras, tawny frogmouths and curlews.

Reptiles

Wildlife HQ has a diverse collection of non-venomous snakes, lizards and radiated tortoises.[6] The majority of the reptile collection is exhibited in the zoo's Reptile Barn.[7]

Incidents

In April 2014, a tarantula was stolen from the zoo.[8]

In May 2014, there were concerns that a local music festival would impact the animals at the zoo.[9]
