Vortex (2021 film)

Vortex is a 2021 psychological drama film[1] written and directed by Gaspar Noé.[2] The film premiered in the Cannes Premiere section at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.[3][4]

The film receives generally positive reviews for its emotional depth, scope, ambition and execution, which considered it as a reforming career for Noé following his previous controversial works, as well as Noe's more mature and finest film ever made.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Plot

Shot in split-screen, the film revolves around the struggles of an elderly couple in declining health and their son who does his best in spite of his significant personal problems.

Release

In August 2021, the film sold to Utopia for US distribution.[11] It is scheduled to be released at the IFC Center on 29 April 2022, followed by an expansion to the rest of the US on 6 May 2022.[12]

Reception

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes calculated 96% approval rating from 24 reviews and scored a 7.80/10 average rating.[13] On Metacritic, it giving the film a weighted average score of 81 out of 100, indicating "universal acclaim".[14]
