Elected to the House in 2012, Foushee was selected by local Democrats to fill a vacancy in the Senate caused by the resignation of Sen. Eleanor Kinnaird in 2013.[2]
She was reelected in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 and has not had to run in a contested Democratic primary since her March 2012 house race.[3]
During the legislative session beginning in 2015, Foushee was one of 12 African Americans to serve in the North Carolina Senate.[4]
Foushee is a candidate in the 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in North Carolina for the fourth district.
