Construction

Before the establishment of Bangladesh, various missionary educational institutions, including churches, were sanctioned and given grants by English missionaries for the purpose of propagating the religion in various parts of the then British Bengal. A large church "Rani Japamala Church" was established at Hasanabad in Nawabganj. As a branch of this organization, several churches and missionary schools were established in the surrounding villages. The 'Tuital Church of the Holy Spirit' and the then missionary school 'Tuital Girls School and College' were approved.

After being under Hasanabad for about 120 years, Tuital Dharmapalli was established on 15 May 1894. And in 1924, a new church was built next to the current church, which was named the "Tuital Church of the Holy Spirit".[3]

Reconstruction

After the construction of the church in 1924, it was renovated many times. A new version was built on the site in 1993.

Popularity

Being located on the banks of Ichhamati, it has multiplied the beauty and peace of the institution. It is a popular picnic spot for Christians as well as people of other faiths due to its unique design and natural interior. Christmases and weddings are celebrated here, and every Sunday the local Christian community comes here to pray. On other days it is open to other people, although there are strict restrictions to protect it.[4]

The shooting of the 1933 film "Ekattorer Jishu (Jesus of the Seventy One)," based on Shahriar Kabir's novel of the same name, took place on the banks of the church and the river Ichhamati.
