Theatre of Eros
The Theatre of Eros (German: Theater des Eros) was a theatre in Weimar-era Gemany.
Founded on 6 July 1921 by Bruno Matussék and writer Eduard Oskar Püttmann[1] in Steglitz, Berlin, the travelling theatre put on shows for individuals or in hotels.[2]
An out gay troupe active during the first homosexual movement in Germany at the time, newspaper advertisements for the theatre were printed in the Berlin gay press at the time. The theatre's plays were gay-themed,[2] and as such, they received the ire of social conservatives of the time.[1]
Friedrich Radszuweit also attempted to rescue the group by folding it into the Bund für Menschenrecht, a gay rights organisation, but this was unsuccessful.[3]
