The Tula Cave

The Tula Cave is one of the tourist centres in Gombe State, Nigeria. It is located in present Kaltungo local government Area which  is about 120 kilometres from the state capital.[1]

History

The Tula Cave Hideout was created by the forefathers of Tula Chiefdom to protect their families from any external aggression. The strategically built cave assured the Tula warriors that the people kept in the cave are safe and protected from external aggression. This is because the cave is carved beneath the settlement of Tula Chiefdom. It has only a small  opening from the outside that is used as the door and this made it unthinkable for the invading enemies to notice its presence. In  the days of war, women, children and the elderly people of Tula usually hide in the cave while able young men go out to battle the enemies. The cave was enormously large enough to contain hundreds of people and also has a well inside to provide water. [2][1]
