Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie (Japanese: 劇場版 からかい上手の高木さん, Hepburn: Gekijōban Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san) is an upcoming Japanese animated film based on Teasing Master Takagi-san manga series and its spin-off Tomorrow Is Saturday both written and illustrated by Sōichirō Yamamoto. Produced by Shin-Ei Animation, the film is directed by Hiroaki Akagi from a script written by Hiroko Fukuda, Aki Itami, and Kan'ichi Katō. In the film, Takagi and Nishikata spend the last summer of their third year in junior high school.

Initially teased in August 2021, the film was confirmed alongside the announcement of a third season for the Teasing Master Takagi-san anime series in September. The staff from the third season were announced to be helming the film in March 2022, with Rie Takahashi and Yuuki Kaji returning to reprise their respective roles as Takagi and Nishikata. Additional staff and cast of the film were revealed in April 2022.

Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie will be distributed by Toho Visual Entertainment in Japan on June 10, 2022.

Premise

A day before the start of the last summer in their junior high school, Takagi and Nishikata find a kitten on their way home, which they named Hana, and decide to take care of it until they find its mother.[1]

Production

In August 2021, the official website of Shogakukan initially teased a film version of Teasing Master Takagi-san manga series by Sōichirō Yamamoto upon posting details about the upcoming release of its sixteenth volume, which was discovered by fans on Twitter.[4] The film was officially confirmed in September 2021.[5] Teasing Master Takagi-san anime series director Hiroaki Akagi was revealed to be returning to direct the film at Shin-Ei Animation, with supervision from Yamamoto,[6] in March 2022, along with the main staff of the anime series' third season, including Hiroko Fukuda, Aki Itami, and Kan'ichi Katō as scriptwriters and Aya Takano as the character designer.[7] Additionally, Rie Takahashi and Yuuki Kaji were confirmed to be reprising their roles in the film as Takagi and Nishikata, respectively.[6] In April 2022, Inori Minase and Haruka Tomatsu were revealed to be joining the returning cast of the anime series in the film. Additional staff for the film were also revealed, including Yuki Kasahara as the art director, Masato Makino as the cinematographer, Yumiko Nakaba as the editor, and Takahiro Enomito as the sound director.[8][3]

Music

Hiroaki Tsutsumi was revealed to be composing Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie in March 2022, after previously doing so for the anime series' three seasons.[7] Yuiko Ōhara was also revealed to be performing the theme music for the film titled "The Beginning of Summer" (はじまりの夏, Hajimari no Natsu).[9] The single is part of her album Island Memories which is set to be released by Toho Animation Records in Japan on July 13, 2022.[10]

Marketing

Commercial videos for Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie were released in 2022, one in February and two in March.[11][12] A teaser visual and trailer for the film were released in March 2022.[7][9] The main visual for the film was released in April 2022.[8]

Release

Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie is set to be released by Toho Visual Entertainment in Japan on June 10, 2022.[6][7] Sentai Filmworks licensed the film in December 2021,[13] and will stream it on Hidive at a later date.[14]
