Tatyana Bakalchuk

Tatyana Vladimirovna Bakalchuk (Russian: Татья́на Влади́мировна Бакальчу́к; née Kim, Russian: Ким, Korean: 김; born on 16 October 1975) is a Russian entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Wildberries, the largest Russian online retailer, and the country's first self-made woman billionaire.[1] As of October 2021, her net worth was estimated at US$13.3 billion.[2]

Early life

Having graduated from Kolomna University, she began working as an English teacher.

Career

In 2004, at the age of 28, while on maternity leave with her first child, she founded Wildberries from her Moscow flat, using her savings of $700.[3] In 2019, the company's value was estimated at $1 billion, which made Bakalchuk the second woman in Russia to become a billionaire.[4][5] In 2020, Forbes magazine reported that she was worth $1.4bn, making her Russia's richest woman.[6]

In February 2021, she became the owner of 100% of the shares in Standard-Credit Bank LLC.[7]

As of March 2021, Bakalchuk's net worth was estimated at $13.1 billion, making her the richest woman in Russia.[8] The next richest woman, Yelena Baturina, had a net worth estimated at $1.3 billion.[9]

In May 2021, it became known that Bakalchuk will join the Supervisory Board of VTB Bank.[10]

In July 2021, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Tatyana and Vladislav Bakalchuk, as well as their retailer Wildberries. The company was accused of selling Russian military uniforms and anti-Ukrainian literature.[11]

By August 2021 Tatiana Bakalchuk`s fortune raised up for 1200% a year, scoring 13 billion dollars and being Forbes Russian women`s fortunes leader with Yelena Baturina left far behind with 1,3 billion dollars).[12]

Personal life

She is married to Vladislav, an IT technician, they have four children, and live in Moscow.[2]
