Tanvir Shakil Joy

Tanvir Shakil Joy (born 1 August 1976)[1] is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Sirajganj-1 constituency.

Career

Joy was elected to Parliament in 2008 from Sirajganj-1 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate.[2] In 2016, he organized a rally of Bangladeshi students protesting Islamic extremism.[3][4] After the death of Mohammed Nasim on 13 June 2020 Joy was elected a Jatiya Sangsad member of the vacant seat in the by-election held on 12 Nov 2020.[5]

Controversy

In April 2007, illegal VoIP equipment allegedly owned by Joy were seized by Rapid Action Battalion from a house in Bashabo.[6]

Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy is one of the few young politicians in Bangladesh who has been able to win the hearts of common people. Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy is a popular and famous Bangladeshi politician who is the son of former successful Minister Mohammad Nasim and one of the four national leaders Captain M. Great grandson of Mansur Ali. His family has a long history of experience in politics and social work. The contribution of this family in the history of Bangladesh will be forever remembered. Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy has taken a firm place in the field of politics at a very young age. In 2008, Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy was elected Member of Parliament for the first time from Sirajganj-1 constituency. In the 2020 by-elections, he was re-elected from the same seat.

He was born on 01 August 1976 in Dhaka. He started his school life at Dhaka University Laboratory School. From there he passed SSC in the first class with Star mark and after getting admitted in the traditional Dhaka College he passed HSC in the first class with Star mark. He enrolled at the prestigious George Mason University in Virginia, USA for higher education and earned a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from that academy.

The army-backed government came to power on January 11, 2006, arresting the country's top political leaders, including Mohammad Nasim, and holding them in various prisons. It was then that Tanvir Shakil Joy came before the people. Father took the lead by fighting the army-backed government that stood against politics for better treatment abroad. He was able to take his father to Singapore for treatment after facing a very unfavorable situation and there too young politician engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy went ahead with the love of the people after overcoming various hostile situations.

When the participation in the 9th Jatiya Sangsad elections was uncertain due to a case against Mohammad Nasim in the 9th Jatiya Sangsad elections on 29 December 2008, he took part in the parliamentary elections in Sirajganj-1 constituency to take charge of the people of historic Kazipur. He was elected as a Member of Parliament by a huge margin. He received 1,8,835 votes. He is working tirelessly for the development of the area, for the happiness and sorrow of the people of the area. He is still working for the people of Nadibhanga. Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy is a popular name among the people of his constituency. By-elections were held in the constituency after the death of Mohammad Nasim. Elections were held on 12 November 2020 by EVM system. Voters exercised their franchise by a record amount of 51% in the EVM system.

He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Awami Swechchhasebak League. He has an enterprising, hardworking and creative personality. Working for the people, for the party, for the country. Engineer Tanvir Shakil Joy regularly participates in discussions on contemporary issues in the national media. He is also currently chairing the Climate Parliament Bangladesh, a forum of MPs on climate change.

Personal life

Joy's father, Mohammed Nasim, was an Awami League politician and former government minister.[7] His grandfather was Captain Muhammad Mansur Ali.[8] Tanvir Shakil Joy was married in 2000 to Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, a teacher in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University. He is the father of a daughter named Tapsi Joy Prathama.
