Surfacing (song)

"Surfacing" is a song by American heavy metal band Slipknot, released on their 1999 self-titled debut album. In 2000, a live version was released as a promotional single.[6] It remains one of the band's signature songs, being their second most played to date.[7]

Release and reception

There was a dispute over the release of this song as the band and album's first single. While deciding which track to release, guitarist Mick Thomson and percussionist Shawn Crahan were reportedly very enthusiastic about releasing "Surfacing" as the next single. In the end, "Spit It Out" was chosen to be released.

Kerrang ranked "Surfacing" as the best Slipknot song in their "20 greatest Slipknot songs – ranked" list.[8]

Notes
  • "Surfacing" contains a sample of "Track 59", as performed by Norman Cook.
  • When played live, it sometimes is announced as "your new National Anthem".[9]
