Early life

Though she was born in Toronto, Ontario, her family had recently moved to Mississauga.[1] Both of Yekka's parents are originally from Uganda, her father was born in Obongi while her mother, Evelyn Adiru, is originally from Arua and was a member of the Uganda track team at the 1984 Summer Olympics.[2][3] She began playing soccer at age six with North Mississauga SC, later playing with Brams United.[1] She is a graduate of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School.[4]

She has played for American collegiate team Michigan Wolverines.

Club career

MSV Duisburg

Yekka joined MSV Duisburg of the Frauen-Bundesliga in September 2020.[5]

Le Havre AC

In 2021, she joined Le Havre AC in France.[6]

International career

Yekka made her debut for the Canada national women's team at age 16, on October 30, 2013 against South Korea in Edmonton, Alberta. She played the first half of a 3–0 win.[1] On May 8, 2014 she played the full 90 minutes of a 1–1 draw against the United States in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in front of the second largest crowd to ever watch a women's soccer game in Canada.[7] She scored her first international goal on December 6, 2015 against Jamaica in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, during the group stage of the 2015 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship.[1] As her 13 senior caps for Canada have been in friendly matches, she remains eligible to play for Uganda (making the one-time change of association first).
