Steve Maurer
Steven Maurer (born July 20, 1947)Graduated Botkins Local Schools in 1965 and The Ohio State University in 1969 with BS degree in Education concentrating in German and Social Studies. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the artillery in Viet Nam. After being honorably discharged he returned to Botkins he taught German in Botkins and New Knoxville Schools and was elected Mayor of Botkins OH. He ran for the Ohio Senate in 1976 losing by 137 votes to incumbent Walter White of Lima. He ran again in 1980 against Dick Ditto, also from Lima, and won by under 100 votes. He represented the 12th District, which encompassed much of West-Central Ohio. In 1984 he was soundly defeated in a bid for reelection. In 1986 he was appointed Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture by Gov. Richard Celeste and served until the end of the administration in Jan. 1991. In October of 1993 he was appointed State Executive Director of USDA's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS] in Ohio by President Clinton. Maurer held the position at the ASCS which had become the Farm Service Agency until the end of the Administration in Jan. 2001 During the eight years of President Barack Obama's Administration, Maurer was again appointed to serve as the State Executive Director of USDA's Farm Service Agency in Ohio.
