History

The Northern Junior Championship was established in 2002 in memory of Stan Trojanowski, father of Cindy and Gary Trojanowski. Stan Trojanowski died in August, 2001 due to mesothelioma, a form of cancer resulting from exposure to asbestos.

Until 2009, the tournament had been open only to Boys and Girls who were members of a Connecticut Section PGA golf course, which included Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. For the seven years that the tournament was a member of the Connecticut Section PGA Junior Golf Tour, the Northern Junior was unquestionably the most prestigious event on the Tour. Since its beginning, the goal has always been to provide the same championship experience and red-carpet treatment that the best national events around the country offer. The tournament committee has worked hard to integrate special amenities not seen at most tournaments, such as live tournament scoring, on course leaderboards, standard bearers, and up to the minute updates on our website.

The 2022 event (20th annual) will be a 36-hole event contested over two days at Great River Golf Club in Milford, Connecticut. The event will be ranked by both the Golfweek Rankings and Junior Golf Scoreboard. The tournament is also part of an elite group who offer multiple AJGA performance stars to the Boys and Girls Champions.

The Northern Junior Championship is open to amateur Boys and Girls who have not reached their 19th birthday and have not entered college by the date of the event.
