Spálené Poříčí

Spálené Poříčí (Czech pronunciation: [ˈspaːlɛnɛː ˈpor̝iːtʃiː]; German: Brennporitschen) is a town in Plzeň-South District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,900 inhabitants. It lies some 20 km (12 mi) to the South-East from the region capital of Plzeň. The town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as urban monument zone.

History

The first written mention of Poříčí is from 1239. Since the 17th century, the town is called Spálené Poříčí because of many large fires that damaged the town (spálené = "burnt" in Czech).[2]

Spálené Poříčí Castle

The Spálené Poříčí Castle replaced an original Gothic keep in 1617. It is partly open to the public.[3]

The Church of Saint Nicolas was originally built in the 14th century. It was rebuilt several times, its current look is from 1882.[4]
