Sir Joseph Ashe, 1st Baronet

Sir Joseph Ashe, 1st Baronet (1618 – 15 April 1686)[1] was an English Whig politician and merchant.

Originally from Somerset,[2] he was the third son of James Ashe and his wife Grace Pitt, daughter of Richard Pitt.[3] In 1757, he settled in Twickenham and bought Cambridge Park, Middlesex.[2] On 19 September 1660, after the restoration, he was created a baronet, of Twickenham, in the County of Middlesex by King Charles II of England,[3] having been a cavalier.[2] Ashe entered the British House of Commons in 1670 and was Member of Parliament (MP) for Downton to 1681.[4]

By 1658, he married Mary Wilson, daughter of Robert Wilson.[5] They had two sons and three daughters.[3] Ashe was buried at Twickenham[5] and was succeeded in the baronetcy by his only surviving son James.[6]
