Shahtoli railway station

Shahtoli railway station is a railway station of East Zone of Bangladesh Railway, situated at Chandpur Sadar sub-district of Chandpur, Bangladesh.[1][2]

History

Founded in 1892 in England, Assam Bengal Railway company took the responsibility to construct rail lines in this country. A 150 km (93 mi) meter-gauge line from Chittagong to Comilla and 69 km (43 mi) meter-gauge line from Laksam to Chandpur were opened to public on 1 July 1895.[3] During that time, as one of the railway stations of the Laksam-Chandpur railway route, Shahtoli Railway Station was built.

Details

Shahtoli railway station is a B-class railway station. It has a platform and a loop-line. This station is closed due to shortage of manpower,[4] but daily two trains still stops here.

Two trains give stoppages daily at Shahtoli Railway Station:

  2. Sagarika Express

Incidents and accidents

  • 4 December 2013: Chittagong bound Meghna Express train derailed near Shahtoli railway station at 5:38 am as some miscreants took off fish-plates from the rail-track. No casualties happened.[5]
