History

The SPPF Youth League was founded in 1985 as a successor to the SPUP Youth League, founded in 1975 and chaired by Paul Hodoul. The SPPF Youth League served as an umbrella organization under which several youth organizations and programs operated, including the Pioneers, the Young Pioneers, the Militants, the Youth Brigades, the Brigad Militer Lazanes (after 1987), and the National Youth Service.[1]

Young Pioneers

The SPPF Youth League administered the Young Pioneers (serving children ages 6 to 12) and Pioneers (serving children age 12 and up) of Seychelles, related to the global pioneer movement. The existence of the Pioneers was mandated in the 1979 Seychelles Constitution, which also stipulated three delegates from the Youth League were to have seats in the National Congress.[2]
