Biography

Serhiy Vasich was born into a military family in 1971 in Batumi, Georgia. Together with his parents he travelled the world to military garrisons, so the army was home for him. His father was an officer who served in the tank troops. Since childhood, Serhiy loved military equipment, especially tanks. At the age of 12, his father put him behind the wheel of a GAZ-66. He learned to ride it back and forth on the overpass. This helped him to better master the tank.

Serhiy Vasich studied well in secondary school and later he received a technical education. He was a well-educated person, always read a lot and constantly improved his knowledge. After moving to Hrytsiv, he worked in the Hrytsiv post office.

He has served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2015. From 2018 he was a tank commander in the tank battalion of the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. He bravely defended his positions in the Kyiv region.

On March 8th, 2022, three tank crews of the 14th separate mechanized brigade took part in the battle for the liberation of the village Makariv, Kyiv region, from the Russian occupiers. From the first shot, tankers under the command of Serhiy Vasich managed to hit the main car, the other two tanks were supported by fire. One by one, enemy vehicles erupted from accurate shots. The infantry began to disperse, later they discovered the position of our tankers, called in artillery. Maneuvering, our tankers destroyed the enemy. The tank of Senior Sergeant Vasich entered the flank of the enemy and began firing high-explosive fragments, smoking the infantry. Together, three Ukrainian tank crews destroyed six units of enemy equipment and a significant amount of enemy manpower. Thus, the enemy was repulsed, and eventually during the counteroffensive, Ukrainian troops liberated from the occupiers an important settlement of Kyiv region - the urban-type settlement of Makariv. However, an enemy anti-tank guided missile hit a Ukrainian T-64BV tank: it detonated ammunition and tore down a turret. The crew of Commander Senior Sergeant Serhiy Vasych, Soldier Oleg Svinchuk and Senior Soldier Vitaliy Parkhomuk was killed in action.
