Background and launch

The album features five original songs and ten covers.[7][8]

The cover of the album originally featured former professional wrestler and Mohawk chief Billy Two Rivers. Two Rivers sued the singer and his label, Universal Music Group, in July, claiming they did not seek permission to use his likeness. On August 4, his lawyer announced the parties had agreed in principle to settle out of court, and were negotiating details toward dismissing the now-suspended suit. The cover was since replaced.Omagh boxer William Mitchell is now on the cover[9][10]

To coincide with the release of the album, Morrison was the subject of a rare interview with Paul Jones, which was broadcast on Jones' BBC Radio 2 show, on 25 September 2017. Jones is a guest musician on the record.[11]

Morrison received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting from Emmylou Harris at the 2017 Americana Music Honors & Awards ceremony and performed "Transformation".
