Räshid Hakimsan

Räshid Hakimsan (April 5, 1934 – September 4, 1997[1]) was a Finnish ice hockey player and a referee. He played in SM-Sarja during the years 1951 to 1960 and won the Finnish Championship four times.

Career

Räshid Hakimsan represented his entire career a local team Ilves, where he played 88 matches in total. During those years, his points were 64 + 35 = 99, and penalties 33 minutes.[2] He won the Finnish Championship in 1952, 1957, 1958 and 1960.[3] As a referee, Hakimsan acted in 181 SM-Sarja / SM-Liiga matches and two world championships.[4]

During his younger years, he was also known as a talented football and basketball player.[5]

Personal life

Räshid Hakimsan was a part of the Finnish Tatar community. Among the community of Tampere, his father was the known artist, Aisa Hakimcan. His sister Aliye was an actress and singer in their native language theater productions.[6]

In the hockey team Ilves, some other members of the Tatar community played at the same time as Hakimsan; for example Mönäyvär Saadetdin, who's also known for commercializing Peremech (pärämäç) in Finland, and Lotfi Nasib, who has been inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.[7][8][9]
