Prosthetic (song)
"Prosthetic" is a song by British progressive metal band Haken. It was the first single and the opening track from the band's sixth album, Virus.[1] The songs lyrics follow the storyline from their previous album, Vector, and act as a bridge between it and Virus. The opening to the music video was initially teased on a livestream on Inside Out Music's YouTube channel on 3 April 2020 and was released the following day.[2]

Production
Prosthetic was the first song written for Virus with a set of demos created by Charlie Griffiths. The completed demo for the song was longer and contained sections that were later cut from the final song. The demos would later be shown on a livestream in April 2020, shortly after the release of the single.[4]
The song's chorus was originally longer and contained different lyrics and vocal melody written by vocalist Ross Jennings. These eventually went unused on the album and were replaced by the current chorus. Jennings would later use his contribution as the basis for the chorus of the song "Young at Heart" from his 2021 album A Shadow of My Future Self.[5] The lyrics were written to have deliberate references to the previous album. According to Charlie Griffiths, the chorus lyrics have very little meaning and simply were what he thought that fit best for the song. However, Ross Jennings has said that he finds the chorus to allude to Brexit.[4]
