overlooking Lake Ceresio (also commonly called Lake Lugano).
Porto Ceresio is an important tourist village, frequented from March to the end of October; thanks to Monte San Giorgio (UNESCO heritage since 2010), Monte Grumello and to the suggestive hamlet of Ca 'del Monte which are characterized by their network of paths, ideal for Trekking or Bikester. The offer is completed with the suggestive landscapes of Lake Ceresio; all supported by a series of cultural events, classical music concerts and Jazz Festivals.
The new administration intends to launch a winter tourist season starting from the Christmas holidays.
The center of the town is located on the lakefront dotted with historic villas directly overlooking the lake, while Piazza Bossi and Piazza Sant’Ambrogio are the two main attractions.
In via Butti, via Matteotti and via Mazzini there are various commercial activities.
The historic core still has the appearance of the original; In recent years it has been possible to witness several renovations that have helped to bring back the original splendor of the Porto Ceresino skyline.
It is not excluded that the new administration ask Porto Ceresio to enter the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy in 2023.
Economy
In Porto Ceresio the main industry is tourism. The town is the most popular holiday resort on the southern shore of Lake Ceresio. The territory of Porto Ceresio is particularly attractive: both because it is on the lakeside and because of a vast network of paths and mountain walks as well as the presence of Monte San Giorgio (UNESCO site since 2010).
In 2021, the increase in attendance was well of + 152%, going from 2,968 in 2019 to 7,479 in 2021 (data referring to the Varese shore only) reaching an all-time high. These results were also achieved thanks to the invaluable contribution to non-hotel establishments which have confirmed the remarkable dynamism of recent years, growing to twenty-nine units: - bed & breakfast - holiday homes - rental housing in business form. Others have started offering through the same portfolios (such as Airbnb): - experiences for tourists - home restaurant service Finally, three areas of growth and new opportunities emerge: - boating - cultural industries - nursery gardening This last sector, understood in a broad sense as the "green supply chain", includes not only green areas for use by private homes, but also the maintenance and improvement of the landscape and living conditions in the towns through the creation of urban greenery.
