Okofrobour Yaw Agyei II

Okofrobour Yaw Agyei II was born in 1943 at Mim in the Ahafo Region of Ghana. He had his primary education at Mim, Ahafo and later went to United States of America to pursue his education at California Institute of Technology. Okofrobour obtained both his MSc and PhD in Aeronautics from the same university.

Okofrobour is a Professor of Engineering and a Research Scientist. He was an associate professor in the Aerospace Science and Engineering Department of Tuskegee University, Alabama, from 1991 to 1997.[2] He was later appointed as a Research Scientist and Lecturer at Fachhochschule Aachen in Germany from 1987 to 1990. Since 2006, Okofrobou has been a Visiting Scholar at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Okofrobour was made the Paramount Chief of the Mim Traditional Area in 1990. His rule from this time was however embroiled in chieftaincy dispute by a rival chief which lasted for about 20 years. The dispute was finally settled by Asantehene who is the overlord of the Ashanti kingdom. In 2008, the Asanteman Council pronounced Okofrobour Yaw Agyei II as the rightful occupant of the Mim traditional stool.[2] He remains one of the longest serving members of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs. His traditional area shares boundaries to the west & south with Dormaa Ahenkro and Sefwi Wiawso traditional areas by the Bia River. To the north, he shares boundaries with Kenyasi traditional area with Goa River and to the east, with Goaso traditional area by the Bonkoni River.

Okofrobour has served in governance, oversight and advisory capacities. In the year 2012, Okofrobour was appointed by the late president John Atta Mills as a Council member for the University of Energy and Natural Resources.[3] Okofrobour is currently a Board member of the Middle Belt Development Authority. This development Authority was set-up by president Nana Akufo-Addo in 2018 to see to the development of the Eastern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.[4]

Okofrobour is passionate about forest conservation and curbing environmental degradation. He is one of the few Traditional Rulers in Ghana's forest zone who has enthusiastically engaged in advocacy for sustainable use of the Natural Resources particularly the forest reserves. There are numerous timber companies located within the Mim traditional area which depend on the forest reserves for their raw materials.[5][6] He was part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Dialogue which was held on 3 October 2018 in Accra, on the theme “Empowering Communities to Manage Natural Resources Sustainably.[7]

Okofrobour Yaw Agyei II has facilitated the establishment of Nana Agyei Girls' junior high school which is all female School. The motive for extablishing this school is to provide easy accces to education for the girl-child within the Mim traditional area. Okofrobour is credited for giving scholarships and other forms of support to needy but brilliant students. He is on record to have said that, getting education for his people is far better than getting good roads in his area.[8]
