Norman Strung

Norman Strung (October 21, 1941 - October 17, 1991) was an English professor, outdoor guide, magazine editor and free-lance writer, focusing on outdoor recreational activities. Although born in New York City, Strung eventually moved to Bozeman, Montana, where he received his bachelor of science from Montana State University and married Priscilla Hoerschgen, both in 1963. During the academic year of 1963-1964, Strung attended the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana, returning to Montana State immediately afterwards to teach.[1]

Writing Career

While teaching English at the University of Montana from 1964-1967, Strung began writing. Around June 1966, Strung provided correspondence for the Field and Stream article, "The Month the Madison Goes Wild."[1] At least 15 books have been authored, coauthored, or edited by Strung.[1]

Strung also had extensive experience with writing for magazines. Occasionally, a pseudonym was used by Strung when authoring an article, such as Bart Yaeger and Asouf Barkee.[1] Strung also acted as a ghostwriter for one author, Walter Cook, for several articles, including "Woodland Bison: World's Rarest Trophy" in the Sports Afield magazine.
