Nina Sterckx

Nina Sterckx (born 26 July 2002)[2] is a Belgian weightlifter. She is a bronze medalist at the European Weightlifting Championships[3] and achieved 5th place representing Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2019, she won the gold medal in the women's junior 49 kg event at the European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships in Bucharest, Romania.[2] She also won the silver medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2021 Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Career

She won the silver medal in the under-15 girls 48 kg event at the 2017 European Youth Weightlifting Championships held in Pristina, Kosovo. She won the bronze medal in the under-17 girls 53 kg event at the 2018 European Youth Weightlifting Championships held in San Donato Milanese, Italy.

Both in 2018 and 2019, she competed in the women's 55 kg event at the World Weightlifting Championships. In 2018, she also competed in the women's 53 kg event at the European Weightlifting Championships held in Bucharest, Romania.[4] In 2019, she finished in 8th place at the European Weightlifting Championships held in Batumi, Georgia.[5]

In April 2021, she won the bronze medal in the women's 55 kg event at the European Weightlifting Championships held in Moscow, Russia.[6][7] In May 2021, she won the silver medal in her event at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.[8][9][10]

In July 2021, she represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.[9][11] Her goal was to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France but her result at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships, limits on the number of athletes per NOC and doping violations of other countries meant that she ranked 8th in the 49 kg weight class, allowing her to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics.[12][13] She finished in 5th place in the women's 49 kg event.[14][15][16] She lifted 81 kg in the Snatch, 99 kg in the Clean & Jerk and she set a new Belgian record of 180 kg in total.[16][17]
