In 1997, when the show began, Mischa, Lindsey, Alexis and Marcus used a computer to surf the web to go behind the scenes of upcoming Disney theatrical movies. They began sitting in a screening room and talking to other actors and actresses of the movie. Later, new hosts have added Rose, Stevanna, Josh, Jeryn and Tessa.

In 2009, Disney XD began airing Movie Surfers, sometimes during commercial breaks.
