Plot

Narendra Kuber (Sachin Pilgaonkar) is a rich, educated boy who soon returns to India after graduating in America. His father Laxmidhar (Nilu Phule) and mother Laxmi (Shubha Khote) throw a grand party for his return. Shaku (Supriya Pilgaonkar), a poor, orphaned girl goes to the party to help her uncle Damodar (Suhas Bhalekar) who works as Laxmidhar's servant. While there, she overhears Narendra's conversation with his friends of marrying a widow as he does not have much time to fulfill his wife's wishes. Having fallen in love with him, Shaku disguises herself as a widow named Saudamini and enters the Kubers' house. She is quickly accepted by Narendra and Laxmi. Eventually, Narendra decides to marry her but faces objection from his parents who ask for her late husband's photograph. With the help of drama shopkeeper Tatya Malvankar (Macchindra Kambli), Shaku shows them a random photograph apparently of her late husband named Captain Bajirao Rangade. The photograph is actually of Dinkar Luktuke (Ashok Saraf), a clerk working for Laxmidhar's childhood friend Deshmukh (Jairam Kulkarni) while dating his daughter Hema (Kishori Shahane). One day, Laxmidhar bumps into Luktuke in Deshmukh's office. He bribes him and devises a plan with him. According to their plan, Luktuke disguises himself as Captain Bajirao Rangade and enters the Kubers' house. He tries to prove to everyone that he is Saudamini's "alive" husband and ends up creating chaos.
