Margaret J. Schneider is an American lawyer from Illinois who is a United States Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Education

Schneider earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois in 1998 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 2001.[1][2]

Legal career

Schneider served as law clerk to Judge Paul V. Niemeyer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. From 2002–2006 she was a litigation associate at the Chicago office of Mayer Brown. In 2006 she became an Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2012–2014 she served as Deputy Chief of the Narcotics Section. From 2014–2015 she served as Deputy Chief of the Violent Crimes Section. In 2015 she transferred to the Western Division and has served as Branch Chief since 2018.[1]

United States magistrate judge

On September 9, 2020, Chief Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer announced the selection of Schneider to be the next United States magistrate judge to replace Iain D. Johnston who was confirmed to be a United States District Judge.[1][3] She was sworn into office by Chief Judge Pallmeyer on February 11, 2021.[4]
