History
Mandai railway station was opened to the public sometime in 1908, as an infill station between Kranji station and Bukit Panjang station.[1] The station was erected with a loop line at the twelfth mile.[1] The station serviced the nearby Mandai Quarry, likely as a goods-only station, carrying freight to and fro from the quarry.[2]
The station was eventually abandoned and demolished.
Incidents
On June 18 1929, a locomotive, "Farrer", carrying three wagons loaded with block granite, derailed near the station and the quarry. The driver was pinned to the ground, and was later brought to the hospital. The driver was announced to have died the following day. The accident was likely caused by the driver becoming faint, as he had been off-duty the previous week due to being sick.[3]
