MV Island Nagalis
The M/V Island Nagalis is the third vessel in the Island Class Ferry series, owned and operated by BC Ferries. Built by Damen Shipyards in 2020, this vessel is part of the second phase of Island Class vessels. The Nagalis was launched as Island 3 on October 29, 2020. It departed Galați, Romania, on May 19, 2021, and under its own power made the transatlantic journey to Victoria, British Columbia, arriving on July 22, 2021. On August 23, Island 3 was christened with its sister ship and renamed Island Nagalis by BC Ferries Strategic Planning Manager Joanne Doyle and Lorraine Henderson from the Wei Wai Kum First Nation. Nagalis means "dawn on the land" in the Kwakwakaʼwakw language.[1]
Service History
The Island Nagalis has yet to officially be entered into service. It was previously scheduled to begin sailing on the Campbell River - Quadra Island in the spring of 2022, along with its sister ship Island K'ulut'a, however, this has now been delayed tentatively to the fall. The vessel briefly went into service in place of the Island Discovery on the Texada Island route, but mostly remains in the new lay-up berth in Quathiaski Cove, Quadra Island.
