Early life

Elizabeth Alice Gottlieb,[1] known as "Lizzie",[2] was born to the editor Robert Gottlieb and the actress Maria Tucci in 1970 or 1971. She graduated from Amherst College magna cum laude. Gottlieb married Michael Young, another filmmaker, in 2000.[1]

Career

Her documentary Today's Man, about her brother, Nicky Gottlieb, and his life with Asperger's syndrome, premiered on PBS in January 2008, after six years of filming.[3][4]

As of 2021, Gottlieb is working on a film about her father, the editor Robert Gottlieb, and the author Robert Caro, as they methodically work to complete the final, fifth volume of his The Years of Lyndon Johnson biography. The pair, both in their late 80s, have worked together for five decades, starting with Caro's biography of Robert Moses, The Power Broker and continuing through Caro's first four volumes about Lyndon B. Johnson. Though they originally declined to be the subject of the documentary, after some convincing, Lizzie Gottlieb has been filming them since 2016. The story is focused on finishing the book rather than a history of their lives. At first, she only filmed them separately, at Caro's request, to avoid moments of contention. The film was in post-production in early 2021 and features interviews with politicians and media personalities.[2]
