List of NAIA institutions
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has 252 member colleges and universities for athletic competition.[1]
NAIA institutions
- Note: The NAIA once had basketball teams split into two divisions. The association discontinued its Division II basketball championships for both men and women after the 2019–20 season,[2] when the 2020 championships were canceled at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Non-basketball playing institutions are denoted by *.
- UBC and Victoria hold concurrent membership in Canada's governing body for university athletics, U Sports, where their basketball teams compete.
- Lincoln Christian will drop sports after the 2021–22 season.
- Lyon is starting a transition to NCAA Division III in July 2022, applying for exploratory membership and then requesting a provisional one by then.
- Sierra Nevada has been in the process of a merger with NCAA Division I's University of Nevada, Reno (Nevada), likely in the 2022–23 school year.
- South Carolina–Beaufort has planned to add basketball as a condition to gain NCAA membership and intended to begin its first season for that sport in 2023.
- South Carolina–Beaufort will start a transition to NCAA Division II in July 2022, joining the Peach Belt Conference.
- Texas A&M–San Antonio will add basketball in 2022.
- Thomas More will also start a transition to NCAA Division II also in July 2022, joining the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. However, it will remain an NAIA member in the 2022–23 school year before starting full NCAA competition in 2023.
