Lilla Melodifestivalen
Lilla Melodifestivalen (known as MGP Junior in 2002) was the Swedish national final that selected the entry to represent Sweden in Melodi Grand Prix Nordic, a defunct song contest for Scandinavian singers aged 8 to 15. Between 2003 and 2005 and 2012 to 2014, Sweden sent its winners to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. In 2006, Sweden's broadcaster withdrew itself from JESC, along with Denmark and Norway, withdrew from Junior Eurovision, thus reviving MGP Nordic.

In 2010, SVT returned to the Junior Eurovision, so the winner goes to the big European competition. When Lilla Melodifestivalen revived in 2012, televoting was removed, and the winner was only decided by the jury. In 2015, Lilla Melodifestivalen was cancelled in order to put focus on a new singing contest called Supershowen. If Sweden were return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the future, they would use a new selection format to replace Lilla Melodifestivalen, as Supershowen runs from October to November.
Shortly after Junior Eurovision 2021, SVT and Norway's broadcaster NRK revealed that delegations were sent to Paris to watch how much the contest evolved, raising questions about both countries returning in 2022.[1] In April 2022, SVT annonuced that Sweden's JESC 2022 participation was not planned at that the moment. As of May 2022, this decision has yet to change.[2]
