Laryssa Biesenthal

Laryssa Biesenthal, born 22 June 1971, in Walkerton, Ontario[1] is a Canadian Olympic rower.[2] Biesenthal, who was inducted in the University of British Columbia hall of fame in 2014, first started rowing as a student at the university in 1990.[3] In 1995, she attended her first World Championship, winning a silver medal in the Quadruple Sculls event, with team members Kathleen Heddle, Marnie McBean and Diane O’Grady.[4] This same quartet won bronze in 1996 Summer Olympics.[4] With a variety of teammates, Biensenthal went on to win a silver medal at the 1997 World Championships, a silver and bronze medal in the 1998 edition, and another bronze in the 1999 Championships.[3] Biensenthal won two more medals before retiring, gold in the 1999 Pan American Games, and finally bronze in the 2000 Summer Olympic Games.[5][3] After her retirement from competitive rowing, she worked as a coach for the Canadian national team prior to the 2004 Summer Games.[6]
