History

"These were the sons and daughters of Homer Horton. His wife, Jane Davidge, belonged to a famous tanning family.

Her brother, John Davidge, was a tanner. With H.H. Crary he built the tannery at Sands Creek, near Hancock, in 1849.

With Lucien Horton he built the Lake Como tannery and settled and named the town. "

"Her brother,' Lucien Horton, second son of Homer Horton, commenced tanning at Lake Como in i860 with John Davidge.

They named the town after the famous Italian lake, as it stood on a similar body of water. " [4]
