Kundalpur, Bihar

Kundalpur is a village in Nalanda district in the Indian state of Bihar.It is the birthplace of Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankar in Jainism. There are beautiful temples dedicated to Mahavira, Rishabhdev and Gautam Swami located here along with many other ancient temples.

It is situated about 2.5 km from Ancient Nalanda Mahavihara and is very close to Ancient Sun Temple famed village of Bargaon. It is located about 11 km away from Bihar Sharif , the district headquarters and nearest City while Patna, the state capital is 80 km away.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census, Kundalpur had a population of 1640 in 321 households. Males constitute 52.31% of the population and females 47.68%. Kundalpur has an average literacy rate of 42.56%, lower than the national average of 74%: male literacy is 62.46%, and female literacy is 37.53%. In Kundalpur, 18.59% of the population is under 6 years of age.[1]

Tourism

Kundalpur is believed to birthplace of Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism,[2] and one of the most important Jain pilgrimage centres of Bihar and proposed to be developed as part of the Jain circuit.[3][4]
