Klahowya Secondary School
Klahowya Secondary School (or KSS) is a secondary school located in Silverdale, Washington and is in the Central Kitsap School District. Klahowya Secondary School was constructed in 1996-1997 as a 133,715 square foot facility with 34 classrooms, 13 labs, a gym, auditorium, and library for grades 7-12. Originally scheduled to open in 1996, it was delayed for another year. [2] In 2016, the school expanded to include sixth graders, and in 2018 a new wing, auxilary gym, 13 classrooms, 3 labs, a fitness room, and a second music room were added as a 45,300 square foot addition. A new track and field, and stadium were also added. On March 13, 2020, Klahowya remained closed due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic along with all public and private schools in Washington state.

Etymology
"Klahowya", also spelled as "Klahowyum", is Chinook Jargon. It is colloquially pronounced "Kluh-HOW-yuh", as in "Klahowya doin'?" However, the correct pronunciation is “Kluh-HOY-Yuh”, meaning “welcome.” [3]
