Kelsey Mitchell (cyclist)

Kelsey Marie Mitchell (born 26 November 1993) is a Canadian professional track cyclist.[1] She won gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in women's individual sprint, and gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Mitchell only started cycling in 2017 at the age of 23 after she participated in RBC Training Ground, an athlete funding and talent ID program.[2][1]

Career

Kelsey began her career as a cyclist at age 23, shortly after graduating from the University of Alberta where she played varsity soccer.[3]

In 2019 she broke the 200 m track sprint world record at the UCI Pan American track cycling championships in Cochabamba, Bolivia.[3] She also won sprint gold in the 2019 Pan American Games and placing fourth in the event at the 2020 world championships.[1]

She won the gold medal in the sprint at the 2020 Summer Olympics.[4][1]
