Kalki Jayanti
Kalki Jayanti is a Hindu festival that celebrates the future birth of Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu, who is born in Kali Yuga to destroy the evils of the world, including Kali (male demon) and restore Dharma, turning the Wheel of Time to Satya Yuga.[1] Kalki's birthday is observed on the Dwadashi of the Shuklapaksha of the Bhadrapada month as per the traditional Hindu calendar, while in Gregorian calendar it is the twelfth day of the waxing phase of the moon.[2] It is said to be celebrated on August 3, 2022 and August 22, 2023.[3][4] This festival is mainly celebrated by the Vaishnavas of the Vaishnavism tradition in Hinduism.

Significance
Kalki is said to be born in the village of Shambala, to a Brahmin family, whose parents are Vishnuyasha (father) and Sumati (mother). This event commences at the end of Kali Yuga, which is described that when Kalki grows up and becomes a warrior, he rides a Divine white horse named Devadatta with a blazing sword, accompanied by a talking parrot, Shuka, who knows everything; the past, present and future. He then goes around the world to fight evil kingdoms and especially Kali, who is a demon that has the powers of a yogi to control beings and makes them commit Adharma. He then restores Dharma and returns to his homeland, heaven or Vaikuntha.[5][6]
Celebration
During the festival, the devotees wake up early in the morning, take a bath before sunrise, fast and recite the Vishnu Stotram, either in the temple or at home.[7] At home, they recite the Narayana Mantra and other mantras 108 times. The performance of the pooja (worship) starts with the Beej mantra, where then an offering of a seat to the Lord (asana) takes place, whereby in the further process, the idol is washed spiritually with water and panchamrita, with the offering of flowers, diya and incense.[8] The worshippers would then either donate food to the Brahmins, the needy ones or both.[9]
