John Kilraine

John Kilraine is an Irish journalist. He is the current London correspondent for RTÉ News and Current Affairs since 2022. He previously was the Dublin correspondent from November 2011 to April 2022.[1]

Career

Prior to his RTÉ career, Kilraine worked as a journalist for TV3, Dublin's 98FM, Sunday Independent and The Irish Press.[2]

He joined Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) in July 2003 and reported extensively on the Mahon Tribunal. He also reported on the visit of President Michael D. Higgins to Peru, Colombia and Cuba in 2017 as a video journalist.[1]

Kilraine was appointed as London correspondent with RTÉ News and Current Affairs in April 2022, succeeding Sean Whelan. He previously held the role of Dublin correspondent for over 15 years, reporting in particular the capital's homeless and housing crisis.[3][4][5]

Personal life

Kilraine was born in London, England. He grew up in Dublin and is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin with an honours degree in English and History and holds a postgraduate diploma in journalism from Dublin City University.[1][3]

In December 2014, Kilraine was the victim of an aggravated burglary at his home.[5]
