He Jiong

He Jiong (Chinese: 何炅; pinyin: Hé Jiǒng, born 28 April 1974) is a Chinese television host, singer, actor, director and a former Arabic lecturer in Beijing Foreign Studies University. In 2020, he ranked 53rd on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list.[1]

Early life and education

He Jiong was born on 28 April 1974 in Yuhua District, Changsha, Hunan, China. His father He Wei (Chinese: 何畏; pinyin: Hé Wèi), who was a professor of philosophy before he retired, currently runs a seafood restaurant chain. His elder brother He Hao (Chinese: 何昊; pinyin: Hé Hào) is a military personnel. He graduated from High School Attached to Hunan Normal University in 1992.

In September 1992, he was admitted to study Arabic at Beijing Foreign Studies University. After graduating in July 1997, he became a lecturer of Arabic at his alma mater, during which time he used an Arabic name "Anwar" (Arabic: أنور‎, lit.'luminous'). Since 2007, to focus on hosting, He and Beijing Foreign Studies University adjusted the content of his work, He no longer serves as a professor and returned his salary, but as a university influence promotion.[2] He resigned in January 2015.[2]

Career

He Jiong is extremely well-known and popular in China, with over 120 million followers on Weibo as of June 2021.[3] He has been the host of Happy Camp for over 20 years. He was also the main character in Emperor Zheng De.[4] He has released three music albums, and his song Gardenia in blossom[5] was well received.
