Jeevan Jyot Kaur

Jeevan Jyot Kaur is an Indian politician and the MLA from Amritsar East Assembly Constituency. She is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party.[1] She defeated Navjot Singh Sidhu in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election.[2] She is also known by the name of Pad woman of Punjab.[3]

Political career

In 2022, Jeevan Jyot Kaur contested from Aam Aadmi Party and won Punjab Legislative Assembly election from Amritsar East Assembly Constituency. She defeated Navjot Singh Sidhu of Indian National Congress and Bikram Singh Majithia of Shiromani Akali Dal. She won 36.74% vote margin.[4][5]

Philanthropic work

In 1996, Jeevan Jyot Kaur founded Sri Hemkunt Education Society (S.H.E. Society), a Nonprofit organization works for the betterment of the poor and underprivileged people. She is also the president of another nonprofit People's Forum For Justice (PFFJ). Jeevan Jyot has also been running a school for the underprivileged children for the last 26years. She and her organization has also adopted a slum in Jalandhar under “Mission Aabaad” aiming at rehabilitating people living in abject poverty in slums.[9]
