Jean-Pierre Robert

Jean-Pierre Robert (Tours, France) is a French double bass player and author.

In 1979, first prize of double bass of Conservatoire de Paris, he becomes a musician of Ensemble l'Itinéraire steered by Michaël Lévinas. He stays there until 2003, and has numerous collaborations with Ensemble Intercontemporain of Pierre Boulez, while claiming a " almighty need to dislearn ".

In 1983 he was invited by Paul Mefano for a solo performance of the 1st Radiophonic creation of Theraps by Yannis Xenakis on the stage of the Centre Pompidou. Then follows the Festival d'Avignon, the Festival de La Rochelle with Pierre-Yves Artaud and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik - Darmstadt -, Festival de Radio France et Montpellier, with the music of Philippe Boivin, Georges Aperghis, Iannis Xenakis, Horatiu Radulescu.

In 1986, begin the writing of " Modes of Playing the Double Bass " (éd. Musica Guild), within the framework of a collaboration with IRCAM, a stake with flat of the playing techniques of his instrument where appear its nearness of the concepts of instrumental body, dance body, to listen as a pictorial and plastic sensibility.

It will be this work on John Cage which opens in 2004 the following period of the work of Juxtapositions (just "Â" position) which implements open forms - Bruno Maderna, Karim Haddad, Sylvano Bussotti - alongside written works or Actions Bruitists; also in juxtapositions of musical styles with musicians like Dominique Pifarely, or dance, the text with Valère Novarina, or with the composer and poet Jacques Rebotier, or even in 1st in the recreation of "Salon de Musique" by Vassily Kandinsky at the MAMCS, Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg.

Its pedagogical significance, in particular for contemporary chamber music, includes invitations from the Cefedem and University of Bourgogne, Ircam -Paris-, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) - São Paulo, Conservatoire national supérieur de musique - Lyon , etc..

Denying a subordination of the arts, his Juxtapositions reveal a form of generosity and a certain humanism in his musical act.
