J. Lee Hill Jr.

J. Lee Hill Jr., is the senior pastor of Christian Fellowship Congregational Church (UCC) in San Diego, California. He has served in ministry since 1999, and is an ordained minister with recognized standing in the Alliance of Baptists and the United Church of Christ.

Education

He attended Florida A&M and graduated from George Mason with a Bachelor of Arts in integrative studies with a concentration in management and leadership, and earned a Master of Divinity from Wake Forest. He received the Bill J. Leonard Distinguished Service Award Pro Fide et Humanitate for his work and advocacy as a public theologian, and holds several diplomas and certificates from Morehouse, Princeton, University of San Diego, the Shalem Institute, and is earning a Master of Theology degree from Columbia Seminary.

His research interests include preaching, worship and liturgy, contemplative studies, social justice and emerging models of Narrative Leadership.

Career

Hill served on the ministerial staff of Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he became the first African-American ordained to Christian Ministry through that Alliance/American Baptist congregation. Before joining the staff of The Riverside Church in the City of New York,[1][2] he was a ministerial intern at Metro Baptist Church in Hells Kitchen, New York. Since 2010 Hill has served as the senior pastor of Christian Fellowship Congregational Church (UCC).[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

Christian Fellowship UCC is a progressive, inclusive, bible-based congregation. The church is located in Emerald Hills community of southeast of San Diego, atop a beautiful bluff, with sweeping viewings. In the congregation's long history the church it has hosted a variety of notable persons, among them Bayard Rustin,[10] Martin Luther King Jr.,[11] and more recently James Forbes and Jeremiah A Wright.[12]

Personal life

Hill was born in the Commonwealth of Virginia, is married and has two children.[13]
