MV Island Discovery

The MV Island Discovery is the first vessel in the Island-class ferry series, owned and operated by BC Ferries. Built by Damen Shipyards in 2019 along with the Island Aurora, these vessels make up the first phase of Island-class vessels. The Island Discovery and its sister ship were delivered by semisubmersible transport ship to Point Hope Shipyard, Victoria, British Columbia, in January 2020.[1] On February 19, 2020, it was christened by BC Ferries Senior Business Analyst Sandy Leduc and former Northern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee member Sandy McCormick.

Service History

Island Discovery entered service on June 10, 2020, on the Powell River - Texada Island route, replacing the 59-year-old North Island Princess. During its first roughly two years of service, the vessel has been swapped out by its sisters and other relief vessels multiple times due to reoccurring maintenance errors.
