Gameplay

Format

Presented with a group of seven "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a guest artist must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of four rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists.[1]

The Thai version has two different formats:

  • Original format
Under the original format, the guest artist can eliminate one or two mystery singers after each round. The game concludes with the last mystery singer standing that depends on outcome of a duet performance with a guest artist.
  • Versus format (seasons 3–4)
Under the versus format (adopted from Giọng ải giọng ai), both opponents can eliminate one singer each in the first two rounds, and then both can choose one singer each to join the final performance in the third round. At the end of the game, the conditions for mystery singers chosen by opposing guest artists depending on the outcome of a final performance, if:
  1. One guest artist has chosen a "good singer" and the other one has chosen a "bad singer"; or
  2. Both two guest artists have chosen a "good singer" or a "bad singer".

Rounds

Each episode presents the guest artist seven people whose identities and singing voices are kept concealed until they are eliminated to perform on the "stage of truth" or remain in the end to perform the final duet.

  • Visual round

The guest artist is given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance. Afterward, a muted video of each mystery singer that reveals only 0.3 seconds of their singing voice is played as an additional hint.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4]

The host is given three "keywords" depending on the mystery singer's identity. Afterward, five different voice snippets from the mystery singer's muted video are being played.[lower-alpha 5]

  • Introduction round

Each mystery singer introduces to the guest artist and panelists with its own voice. Good singers are telling the truth, while bad singers are allowed to lie to deceive the artist.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4][lower-alpha 5]

  • Lip sync round

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to a recording of their own performance, while bad singers mime to a recording of someone's else.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4]

Separated into two phases, the mystery singers perform their lip sync, starting with good singer's recordings first and then bad singer's recordings being the last.[lower-alpha 5]

  • Evidence round

The guest artist must assign three "mystery songs" to one of the mystery singers of their chosen. Afterward, they must react toward that song.[lower-alpha 5]

  • Interrogation round

The guest artist can converse and ask questions of one of the remaining mystery singers. As before, good singers must answer truthfully, while bad singers might lie.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2]

  • Talent round

The guest artist must describe one of the mystery singer's other talents, except "singing" itself. It may unrelated to the stage of truth, but it depends on the mystery singer's identity.[lower-alpha 1][lower-alpha 2][lower-alpha 3][lower-alpha 4][lower-alpha 5]

Production

Background and development

Workpoint Entertainment first announced the development of the series in January 2016.[1] In an interview with CJ ENM format sales director Diane Min from K7 Media, she notably mentioned Thailand as the first country to began airing that subsequently became an international television game show franchise.[2]

In the fourth season, Bigo Live and the network itself jointly collaborated by launching a livestream-based companion event I Can Show my Voice, which was held in November 2020.[3]

Filming

Filmings for the series took place at the Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Mueang District, Pathum Thani. Also in Min's interview, she stated that the programme "never stop filming" since its debut broadcast.[2] In the fourth season, Bigo Live also co-produced the premiere episode.[3] Since the third season, tapings have been implemented health and safety protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Broadcast

History

I Can See Your Voice Thailand debuted on 13 January 2016. The second season immediately started a week after the first-season finale, with Got7 being the first international guest artists.[4][5] The third season spanned two years of airing that premiered on 21 November 2018.[6][7] Meanwhile, Siriporn Yooyord defeated Sunaree Ratchasima in the first episode under "versus format" on 30 October 2019.[8] In a co-production with Bigo Live, the fourth season began airing on 4 November 2020, with Trinity being the guest artists.[9][10] In celebration of their fifth anniversary, the fifth season (dubbed as I Can See Your Voice Festival) premiered on 13 October 2021.[11][12]

Due to continuous seasonal broadcast, this show has achieved milestone episodes. On 31 January 2018, the 100th episode was played by Tai Tanawut.[13][14] It would later surpassed to 200th episode played by Cheranut Yusanonda in the third season that coincidentally aired in New Year's Day of 2020,[15] and 300th episode played by Kornpob Janjarearn in the fifth season.[16]

Special episodes

For the first two seasons, I Can See Your Voice Thailand was pre-empted of airing in October due to the demise of King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.[17] A Memorial Showcase episode was then aired following that event.[18] Other highlight episodes that have occasionally held are New Year's Countdown Showcase[19] and Summer, Rainy and Winter Showcase (both for two seasons).[20]
