Hila Klein

Hila Klein (Hebrew: הילה קליין née Hacmon חכמון; born December 12, 1987) is an Israeli American artist. She is known for co-creating the YouTube channels h3h3Productions and H3 Podcast alongside her husband Ethan Klein,[2] and for creating the streetwear brand Teddy Fresh.[3][4]

Early life and education

Hila Hacmon was born in Tel Aviv, Israel.[5] Her Israeli parents are of Mizrahi Jewish (Libyan-Jewish and Turkish-Jewish) descent.[6] Her brother is artist Moses Hacmon.[7]

Klein and husband Ethan Klein began creating videos for YouTube under the banner of h3h3Productions in 2011.[8] The Kleins later expanded their content creating several channels including the H3 Podcast.[9] The Kleins were featured as videogame characters in a Payday 2 DLC, with the proceeds funding their defence of a copyright infringement lawsuit filed against the channel.[10][11]

Teddy Fresh

Klein founded the Los Angeles based street wear brand Teddy Fresh in 2017 and is currently the CEO and principal designer.[5][12][13][14][15][16] Noticing a lack of colorful and playful clothing for adults, products draw inspiration from 90s fashion and kids clothing to satisfy that niche.[17]

The brand has collaborated with animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants[18] and Rick and Morty,[19] as well as with singer Elton John[20] and Care Bears.[21][22] In 2021, Teddy Fresh hosted a pop-up event in Los Angeles for its collaboration with Looney Tunes.[12][17]

Controversies

In 2020, James Charles revealed a design for his merchandise and was criticized by Ethan Klein for its similarities to the Teddy Fresh color-blocking design. Ethan claimed that the choice of color palette and color-block design was identical to Teddy Fresh's most popular hoodie. Charles claimed to have never seen the Teddy Fresh designs, that his design was inspired by a different brand and that the brands were not in competition.[23]

In late 2021, the company halted the release of a jumper after a Reddit user noticed that the design was copied from a 1995 knitting book.[24]

Personal life

She first met Ethan Klein in Israel, at the Holocaust Yad Vashem Museum during her service in the Israel Defense Forces in 2007. The couple married in October 2012.[6] Their first son, Theodore, was born in June 2019,[25] their second son, Bruce, was born in February 2022.[26][27]

Klein currently lives in Bel Air, California, U.S.[28] She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2019.[29][30]
